Race Guide
Thank you for your entry to the "Fukui Sakura Marathon 2024." Please read this document carefully to prepare for this event.
The event staff and volunteers all look forward to seeing you at the event.
Start times will be divided into two waves to ensure a smooth and safe start.
COURSE
The following (planned) course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and World Athletics/Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

In the event of high winds, natural disasters, etc., the organizers reserve the right to cancel the competition or change the course at their discretion.
REGULATIONS
The event shall be conducted in accordance with the current rules and regulations of the World Athletics and JAAF and the regulations of the event.

A separate administration fee of 2,000 yen will be charged at the time of payment of the entry fee.
CHECKPOINTS
If a runner fails to pass through any of the following checkpoints by the closing time, the runner must withdraw from the race and board the pick-up bus or other means of transportation. Please note that runners may be instructed to withdraw from the race even prior to the checkpoint closing time if they are significantly delayed due to an inability to run or if it is deemed that the runner is incapable of continuing.

Participation by wheelchair is not permitted.
Escort runner
Runners with disabilities who find it difficult to run alone must be accompanied by an escort (participation is free of charge). Up to two escort runners may accompany such runners. (Guide dogs are not permitted.)

Entry requires membership registration (free of charge) on AMARYS.
The runners’ times will be tracked using a transponder chip.
Records and overall standings shall be determined by the gross time from each wave start gun for the marathon and from each start gun for the other events.
For reference records and age group rankings, times after crossing the start line (net times) shall also be tracked.
Runners who do not start in the designated wave may be disqualified.
Rankings will be determined by the second. However, in the case of a tie, rankings will be determined by the nearest 1/100th of a second.
START LINE UP
To ensure a smooth and safe start, the waiting block at the start will be set based on the estimated finishing time declared at the time of entry, regardless of whether the runner is registered with the JAAF or not.
Runners who have not entered a time will start from the rear block.
Blocks may differ even for those who have declared the same time.
AWARDS
Awards will be given to the 1st–8th place overall male and female finishers (by gross time)
On the day of the event, there will be an awards ceremony for the 1st–3rd overall male and female finishers, and certificates for the 4th placers and below will be sent out at a later date.
Awards will be given to the 1st–8th place overall male and female finishers in each age group (by net time)
No awards ceremony will be held. Award certificates will be sent out at a later date.
The age groups will be divided into six categories: 29 and under, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s and over.
(Ages are as of the day of the event, and overall winners will be excluded from age group winners.)

Passport identification will be required at the number pickup desk (pickup by proxy will not be accepted). Please also bring proof of foreign residency.

CERTIFICATES (ONLINE ONLY)
An online certificate can be created and downloaded from the event website after the race. No paper records will be issued. Preliminary personal records can also be checked on the event website.
FINISHER’S PRIZES
Runners who complete the race will receive a finisher’s medal and towel.
HANDLING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
The organizer recognizes the importance of protecting personal information and will handle this in strict compliance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and its related laws and regulations, such as EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and in accordance with the event Privacy Policy. Personal information shall be used only for the purpose of improving the services provided to the participants of the event, such as participant information, notification of records and related information, provision of services by the event sponsors, collaborators, co-organizers, and related organizations, and notification of records.

Participants' personal information may be provided to companies involved in the management of the marathon, commissioned companies and other third parties (including those outside Japan). In the event that participants’ personal information is provided to third parties in countries outside the EEA (European Economic Area), it will be fully protected through the conclusion of a standard contract based on the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) or other measures.
PROVISION OF DATA TO RUNLINK AGE RANKINGS
This event participates in the RunLink Age Rankings conducted by the JAAF, and data on all participating runners, such as names, athlete bib numbers, address (prefectural level), age, gender, net time, gross time, and rank, will be provided to the JAAF.
Based on the data provided, the JAAF ranks the times of all runners who have participated in officially recognized events across Japan and publishes the rankings on its website (RunLink Age Rankings).

TERMS AND APPLICATION
All participants must accept the following terms and application before applying for the event:
The organizer shall only be liable for first aid treatment in the event of illness or other accidents. Compensation for illness and other accidents will be covered within the scope of the organizer’s insurance policy, except in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence on the part of the organizer. Compensation will not be provided for COVID-19 infection.
No cancellations, refunds, or changes of registration details (event types, etc.) due to personal reasons shall be accepted once the application has been submitted. No refunds will be made for duplicate entries made in error.
In the event of cancellation due to an earthquake, windstorm, flood, snowfall, incident, accident, disease (including COVID-19), or other circumstances beyond the organizer’s control, the organizer shall decide whether to refund the entry fee after taking into consideration the expenses incurred up to the time the decision to cancel is made.
No parking areas shall be provided by the organizer around Fukui Station, which is the start and finish point of the race. Please arrive by public transportation. The organizer shall not be held responsible for late arrivals due to public transportation disruptions, road conditions, etc.
Minors must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before applying.
The organizer shall not be held responsible for any failure to receive communication by the deadline due to malfunction of Internet equipment, non-delivery or delay of shipments, or malfunction in the communication environment due to causes not attributable to the organizer, or if the necessary procedures could not be completed.
In the event that a false declaration of age, gender, record, etc., or any other fraudulent act such as entry by a person other than the applicant himself or herself is discovered, the entry and record (awards) shall be cancelled. No refunds shall be made in such cases.
Participants shall be responsible for managing their personal belongings and equipment and shall not hold the organizers liable for any loss or damage thereof.
Participants are prohibited from wearing or displaying at the event venue (including the racecourse) any advertising or promotional items such as company names, product names, or designs implying such names (other than those displayed by the organizer), items that may injure others, items that are offensive to public order, or any other items that the organizer deems inappropriate.
The organizer reserves the right to publish images, photographs, articles, the names, ages, and addresses (country, prefecture, or city) of participants, etc., in newspapers, television, magazines, the Internet, pamphlets, etc., as well as portrait rights of participants. The rankings, names, hometowns, and records of all marathon finishers will be published in the Fukui Shimbun newspaper after the event. Please also refer to the “HANDLING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION” section.
The event shall be conducted in compliance with all relevant laws.
No receipts will be issued. Please check your credit card statement or invoice.

In addition to the “Marathon” event, there are “Pair Relay Marathon,” “5 km,” and “1.5 km” events. You are welcome to enter these events, but entries are only accepted through the Japanese-language website. This entry site is limited to the “Marathon” event. If you wish to enter or run in events other than the ”Marathon” event, please follow the instructions and rules in Japanese and register for the event of your choice on the Japanese-language entry site. Please note that we will not be able to respond to inquiries in English or Chinese.
In addition to the rules and regulations stipulated above, please follow the instructions of the organizer with regard to the competition.
PRECAUTIONS
All participants are encouraged to take good care of their health and train sufficiently for the race. In addition, please make sure that you have undergone a medical check-up before the day of the race to ensure that there are no abnormalities. If you are ill on the day of the race, you are encouraged to withdraw from it.
In the event of an emergency during the race or for the purpose of moving local residents, emergency vehicles may be given priority on the course. In such instances, the organizer will impose a runner’s stop, in which case please follow the instructions of the officials on site.
A baggage deposit station will be set up near the start and finish areas. Valuables may not be stored, so please manage any valuables at your own risk.
After submitting your application, please follow the participation information and precautions for the event that will be provided to you in advance.

The tenshu tower of Maruoka Castle was built before the Edo period and is the only one remaining in the Hokuriku region. It has also been selected as one of Japan's 100 finest cherry blossom sites.

Viewpoint!
This is the track and field stadium where Japan’s first sub-10-second 100-meter record was set.
Asuwa River (Kagetsu Bridge)

You will run through not only the rows of cherry blossom trees, but also through a cherry blossom tunnel to the finish line.
